Working Road Trip… Vegas Baby….

While working in Vegas the week of the 24th-28th I had a great Session at Doc Romeo (Pro) park and an amazing beyond belief session at Anthem. There were only 4 older BMX guys riding so with the park almost empty we had free reign to try new lines and experiment. IT WAS PHENOMENAL!!!!!! The other guys were Vegas locals and had long pants and hoodies on and I am in my shorts and T-shirt sweating and thinking the weather was perfect. Amazing what long term exposure to cold can do to your mind.

It’s nice outside

I was surprised at how nice the weather was today. So after I dropped off the car pool, I went and rode Syracuse for a while. There were still puddles in both sides, but I was able to jump the spine without getting wet.

Then I went to look at Layton. With a towel and my leaf blower, I could have the main bowl ready to ride. The gate is still locked and will be for a while.

Dyno Dino DeLuca!!!!!!

I was so stoked to meet one of my idols from my teens. He was at Chandler and Ripping it up! I saw him pull some serious air on a vert quarterpipe. Can-cans, Look-backs and even a can-can-look-back! I was totally impressed. He is even older than Gator and I and ripping it up. His ride is sweet too. He is on a gold SE quadangle and has sweet dialed We The People wheels with chrome rims. Dino was totally cool and I was able to introduce my two boys to him! He and his friend Ken (originally from Camarillo CA) met at chandler to ride.

Chandler BMX Park!!! AKA HEAVEN!

Completely Radical designed for US not THEM. What an amazing experience. The many lines. And flow of this place are out of this world. Hips jumps spine and vert extensions abound. Everyone was having a blast. Wes had an out of mind experience today. He caught air on the hips and found a few places to fly out and turned off his brain and turned on the speed. His tires were 2 feet off the ground. Catching real air had him giddy with excitement. Justin turned up the volume and air with learning real turndowns.

Exciting morning

It’s 6:00 a.m. They are all up. Could it be that they are excited to go somewhere? All you have to say is Chandler BMX Park.

Even Spencer is up, dressed, and ready. Shocked? That’s how good this place is to ride. Last year Spencer learned tuck no handers at Chandler.

I was up at 5:00 a.m. as usual, but the boys got right up when Wes’ alarm went off.

I asked Wes, “Are you ready for some riding?” He said, “Yes, oh yes.”

The long… LONG, trip to Phoenix

Today we drove from Vegas to phenix arizona… I have never seen soooooooooooooo much NOTHINGNESS!!!!!!!!!!!! The only exciting thing about this drive was the Joshua tree forest, they are so cool looking! At the top it looks like a palm tree and the bottom looks like a pine tree! How awesome is that!? The other exciting thing was we passed a Lamborghini on the freeway! I mean come on how awesome is that? A fifteen passenger van can pass a Lamborghini! Haha guess they have a little work to do!

Shutting down Anthem

We went back to Anthem to ride until they shut the lights off. Things cleared out fairly quickly and we were able to get some good runs in. As it got to 3 minutes before closing, the park official had to honk the horn at us to let us know he was ready to close the park and go home.

When we rode past, he commented, “If you want to ride some more, just come back tomorrow.”

I replied, “I drove 400 miles to ride here and we are leaving tomorrow. I don’t have that luxury.”

I got no response.

Many thanks to Kenneth, who rode with us to the end.
